(DAY 4) Ilana Goor Museum, Street Market, Electric cars, Rabin Museum

OK -- we started out our day on DAY 4 by heading down to Jaffa to roam the Turkish Alleys of the old city...

Lucille, Dotty, and Judy
As usual, Doris is leading the way
Just missed Janice's impression of her old Jewish lady
But I did get the two Red-Shirt twins, Michael & Colin
Debbie in the foreground
Just after the guide was explaining (with microphone) how at the heart of every major city in Israel, there are important Catholic, Muslim, and Jewish historical sites, and near here was the Greek Orthodox church, out came a local resident and told us to quiet down!

The Pharonic Arch in Jaffa

A giant oragne tree grows out of a giant suspended ... seed?
This suspended 'art' is a symbol of Jaffa's Economy -- Jaffa Oranges no longer come from Jaffa ! Talk about the Truffula Trees and the Lorax!

Under the arch with Michael, Janice and Rabbi Colin
Ilana Goor is a famous Israeli artist with a museum of artwork located in Jaffa.
We visited this unique museum - which also is her home in Israel...

Terri at the entrance of the Ilana Goor Museum

Yosi and his flute

A dining room table that went very bad...
This art museum is unique in that it is built in a villa that is owned and occupied by the artist.  Many works contained here are by her, or by other artists that she likes and wants to show and support.  She could pass thru the house at any time...

Tour guide Mimi and Anita in front of some wall art works

Then the artist - Ilana is in the white shirt in the middle - just happened
to pop out to meet us 'paparrazzi'

On up through the many rooms, and up to the rooftop...
Group shot at the top of the Goor Villa
We found the Gabrieli shop, so I could buy a Talis bag
(Thanks Yakov and Beth Tepper)
But we did NOT find the cart selling the Malabe :(

Shopping and eating today on Nahalat Binyamin

Dick, Susan, Margery and Debbie shopping on the streets

Anything you want -- but no haggling here
Street performers
Next, we visited Better Place Israel - an electric car company working together with Renault to produce an efficient battery changing station for the 100% electric Renault Z.E. cars.  A Robot removes the old battery and installs the new one in under 5 min.

The Showroom - about $35000 each
Then we saw a movie about oil dependency and the process conceived of for this 100% electric car.  Pollution control, engery efficiency, and the use of renewable resources.

The chairs in this room
were so RELAXXXXING... ZZZZZZ

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Then we woke up :) and took the cars for a test ride on the test track.

Look out -- Susan's driving
We promised that if the Rabbi were to buy one, the synagogue
would pay for all his gas fillups
Then we finished the day with a visit to the Yitzhak Rabin Museum
Very new and modern media spectacular
Too much information ...
and not enough time, but still very moving

The unique architecture of the building represents the wings of a dove

At the end of this day - we were all VERY tired.
Anyone want to go to the mall???  NOT!

Later in the evening, Beverly visited her Machatonim and
Debbie went off to her cousin's Wedding ceremony...

Here is a picture of the Carlton hotel we stayed in while in Tel Aviv.
Tomorrow we check out and go to JERUSALEM!
